October 2008 Artist Letter
By Melissa C. Reardon
As I sit in the massive library at the Mt. Angel Abbey in Mt Angel Oregon, I am inspired. My next creative steps are
making themselves clear to me. My research on spirituality and Nature are taking me in new directions where I am able to
integrate words and photographs. I have a new digital SLR that I am still playing around with to define a sense of
my own style with this new medium. I miss the darkroom and the fine tuned mid-tones that black and white film always gave
me, but while that equipment gathers dust, I enjoy the instant gratification of using digital images.
As I toiled away in the darkroom all those years, I could never find the right integration of words and image. It
is a major accomplishment to see them finally coalescing into something that gives me the quickening of inspiration.
Now if I can only find enough time to do all the projects I want to work on! My prose was included in the Voice Catcher
anthology last year. In addition, an article I wrote about adopting our beloved border collie from a dog rescue was
published in Spot Magazine. I find places to write and publish as often as I can, take classes that build my knowledge
base and participate in writers groups to connect with others and share experiences.
It is my goal to spend more time focusing on the idea of earthdharma on this site. Since earthdharma embodies the
ideas of humanity’s balance and long term sustainability, there is so much to share and discuss. As my writing work evolves
and the images present themselves, I will post my views on this concept more and more. Please contact me by email if you have any
ideas you want to share on this concept.
As far as my marketing workbook goes, the book has been updated with new exercises. It is now available as an e-book
and is set up on this website for purchase. I still have many copies of the first version available
for sale on this site and at Amazon.com. I have recently discontinued my focused efforts on developing
more workshops in the area, however I am still making myself available, so please contact me if you are interested
in having me share these ideas with your organization! As much as I enjoyed the synergy of artists sharing with and
supporting each other as they learn marketing, there are more pressing projects to focus on: my research on spirit
and nature, fiction stories I am working on, articles on sustainability and the like.
Thank you for visiting the site. I hope it gives you a sense of connection to the Earth that sustains us. My
images are still available for sale as limited edition prints or for illustrations as stock images so please feel
free to email me if you have a need for my work. I will negotiate to fit within your budget as costs allow.
Wishing you deep peace, living within the moment and connection to your true divine self…
