ARTIST'S BIO
I believe that everything is connected. Plant life, water life, humanity, and the rest.
There is a connection between the choices I make and the ones I don't.
I am connected to the earth and the beings that dwell upon it. This philosophy is not only reflected in my images
but in the work I do to support a sustainable community in my town, my state and my planet as a whole.
As a professional artist, I enjoy the texture and hands on technique of woodcarving, the play of
light on stained glass projects, the freedom of creating paper mandalas, the intellectual challenge
of writing and the solitude of the darkroom. My art is greatly influenced by the "Dharma Art" concept
of Chogyam Trungpa, "What We Ache For" by Oriah Mountain Dreamer and "The Artist's Way" by Julia Cameron.
My photographs are influenced by Christopher Burkett, Imogen Cunningham and Edward Weston. My images
have been included in several corporate art collections, purchased by established art collectors, have won
awards and have been exhibited in New York and Slovenia.
I am discovering the use of chiaroscuro to create plasticity in my two dimensional work with subtle
changes in light, value, mass and texture. I want to create art that gives the viewer the desire to come
closer and feel compelled to touch the artwork. My ongoing challenge is to create work that ultimately has
a sense of its own lifeforce.
I use my own meditation practice to influence my work and keep me focused on how spirit can enlighten others
through art. Since I am an independent student of philosophy and native cultures, I use the concepts I have
learned as I approach my work. I attempt to allow the work to evolve on its own, showing me the way, while
teaching me about myself and what the world needs from me.
